Shakespeare establishes the landscape: a full ensemble of human affects distributed across dramatis personae. All emotions are present simultaneously, unresolved but coexisting. This is the raw behavioral field E — the substrate of user behavior (UB) before optimization, abstraction, or governance.

Marx and Wilde operate on this field by changing scale and orientation. Marx zooms out, collapsing individuals into class-level gradients; Wilde rotates inward, exposing variance within the same social layer. Together they generate data + loss: patterns observed, deviations noted, error introduced.

Dostoevsky introduces topology. The soul (Alyosha), body (Dmitri), and mind (Ivan) are not labels but connected regions of the same manifold (Karamazov). The question becomes one of continuity: which transformations preserve coherence, and which rupture it. This is where stochastic gradient descent quietly enters — local adjustments constrained by global structure.

Nietzsche temporalizes the system. As heir to Heraclitus and preacher of becoming, he subjects values to acceleration and curvature. Optimization now unfolds over time, not toward equilibrium but through volatility. Stability must be earned dynamically.

Joyce performs the integral. In Ulysses, one city, one day, and one cast accumulate all prior operations into lived experience. Moral judgment, aesthetic style, and explicit computation converge — nowhere more starkly than in Ithaca, where catechism, enumeration, geometry, and absurd arithmetic reduce life to calculations that nonetheless retain meaning.

What emerges is an ecosystem: landscape (LS) transformed through data and loss (UB), optimized through local descent (SGD), rendered legible through interface (UI/UX), and stabilized as a living system (EC). User behavior sits squarely in the middle — not an afterthought, but 2/5 of the ukb-slack-stack, ahead of silicon, ahead of implementation, clarifying what is worth optimizing in the first place.
