Canon: Diagonal (Var) marks cooperation within an agent—ordered signal-transduction that improbably maintains order against physics (Schrödinger’s “negentropy”). Off-diagonals (Cov) mark transactions between agents—synchronies that arise at interfaces. Collisions at h(t) stress Σ; the observed ΔS is what gets written into θ′.
